Max Towing Capacity: The maximum weight your truck can safely tow behind it.
Curb Weight: The weight of your vehicle.
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR): The maximum weight of your vehicle and everything in it. That includes cargo, passengers, and the tongue weight of the trailer if you’re towing.
Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR): Not to be confused with GVWR, Gross Combined Weight Rating is the maximum weight of your vehicle itself and a loaded trailer.
Payload Capacity: The maximum amount your vehicle can carry in its cabin or truck bed. This includes passengers and cargo but doesn’t include the weight of the curb weight.
Tongue Weight: The pressure your trailer applies to your vehicle’s hitch. For conventional trailers, the tongue weight should be about 10%. For a gooseneck or fifth-wheel hitch, it should be about 15%.
Hitch: The connection point between your truck and your trailer.
Gooseneck Hitch: A type of hitch that is mounted to a reinforced area in the bed of your truck.
Fifth-Wheel Hitch: This is a type of hitch similar to a gooseneck hitch in that it is also mounted to the bed of your truck; however, a fifth-wheel hitch is usually mounted higher up in the bed and is used to pull things like RV trailers.
Wheelbase: The distance from the center of the front wheels to the center of the rear wheels. This measurement is important because longer wheelbases tend to provide better stability when towing.
