The big news for the 2021 GMC Canyon is the addition of the AT4 trim. This new off-road-oriented version features standard four-wheel drive as well as performance enhancers like a locking rear differential, a two-speed transfer case, advanced hill descent control, a skid plate, 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, and trim-exclusive styling details. The range-topping Denali trim gets a refresh for the 2021 model year, with 20-inch wheels, more chrome exterior trim, and an eye-catching grille design. Cabin materials also see some upgrades for a more upscale fit and finish. Across the lineup, Canyon models see front fascia updates that deliver a more striking aesthetic.
The GMC Canyon debuted in 2004, replacing the GMC Sonoma. The goal of this mid-size truck is to offer a truck that’s less bulky than other models. When it first debuted in 2004, the GMC Canyon was offered in regular cab, extended cab, and crew cab body styles. Even since the very beginning, the Canyon has put focus on off-road ability by offering a Z71 suspension and other off-road features.
In 2009, the Canyon received an eight-cylinder engine, allowing it to now tow up to 6,000 pounds. In 2012, the Canyon was discontinued. However, as more and more drivers turned to mid-size trucks, GMC decided to bring back the Canyon for 2015. Since then, the Canyon has continued to provide plenty of up-to-date features such as technology, safety, and comfort.
